  • Degree in Physics (Universitat de Barcelona, 1974)
  • PhD in Physics (Universitat de Barcelona, 1982)

Research Interests

Mathematical modelling of coastal processes. Dynamics of beach profile and nearshore sand bars, shoreline planform and sand waves, sand banks and large scale morphological patterns.  Dynamics of currents, low frequency water waves, shear waves and edge waves. Self-organized patterns and complexity.

Biographical Sketch

Albert Falqués got his Degree and his PhD in Physics at the University of Barcelona in 1974 and 1982, respectively. He started his teaching career as assistant professor at the civil engineering school of UPC in 1976 and he got an Associate Professor position in 1985. He is Full Professor since 2006. He has been teaching Physics and Mathematics, mainly Mechanics and Fluid Dynamics, but also Differential Equations and Numerical Methods. He started his research career in the field of Continuum Mechanics, Rational Thermodynamics and Dynamical Systems. After the PhD promotion in 1982 he turned into Fluid Mechanics and Numerical Methods. In 1986 he started his main research activity in coastal morphodynamics that he has been pursuing since then. He has funded a small research group in this topic (6 people at present), has led 14 funded scientific projects and has supervised 10 PhD thesis. He has more than 56 published scientific articles and he has presented more than 110 conference talks (including invited talks).
