Education

  • Bachelor Earth Sciences (2013), Utrecht University
  • Master Earth Sciences - Earth Surface and Water (2015), Utrecht University

Research Interests

Research that focuses on studying the morphological interactions at different spatio and temporal scales. Studying wave measurements by buoys (including directional spectra and directional spreading) and modelling wave propagation. Analysing morphological changes with video-cameras. Combing field measurements and process-based modelling to understand the development and interactions between surf zone morphodynamic patterns.

Biographical Sketch

Rinse de Swart graduated from the master ‘Earth Surface and Water’ at Utrecht University at the end of 2015. Within this master, he followed the track ‘Coastal Dynamics and Fluvial Systems’, with an emphasis on estuaries, tides and the nearshore zone. As part of his master program, Rinse spent 5 months (March-July 2015) at the Coastal Morphodynamics research group of the UPC, where he studied the evolution of crescentic bars at Castelldefels beach (20 km southwest of Barcelona). From March 2016 - April 2017, he worked as junior specialist Coasts & Seas at the consultancy firm WaterProof Marine Consultancy & Services B.V. Since May 2017, he is employed as a PhD student at the Coastal Morphodynamics research group. His main focus is the complexity of the coastal system by studying the interactions at different spatio and temporal scales between surf zone sandbars, the shoreline and the cross-shore dynamics of the bars (also referred to as morphological coupling).
